Huawei is one of the most successful Chinese manufacturers of mobile products in recent times. They have proven that they’re able to create premium hardware based on a good design and solid build quality, thanks to the materials they use. The Huawei Watch is one of the most desirable smartwatches out there as it’s designed to look timeless and it uses sapphire glass to cover its round screen. Huawei’s newest flagship, the Mate S, which was announced at the beginning of the month is another example of carefully designed hardware which is packing some of the best internals out there.
Before it was announced, we knew it would include a pressure sensitive screen as it was teased by the company (actually, only some variants of the Mate S have this kind of screen). Apple was actually the first to announce that they planned to use such technology, branded Force Touch in some of their products, and now that the new iPhones are official, we know the company is using it in those phones too, although they named it 3D Touch this time around. This technology is used across the whole OS to make additional functions appear from app icons or to see a preview in some other apps without actually opening the app. On the Huawei device, the technology is used to control zooming into pictures, preview pictures in the gallery and even weigh some items by placing them on the screen.
That’s not the only similarity between the two iPhones and the Mate S, as both are made of aluminum, both sport a 2.5D glass over their displays and they are offered in four color options. Actually, the premium versions of the Mate S with 64 GB of internal storage are offered in Gold or Pink, while the regular version is offered in Champagne or Silver. Huawei has been pointing out some subtle differences between their new device and the latest iPhone, including how the antenna lines on the Mate S are slimmer and how their smartphone is actually smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus, despite having a screen of the same size.
Now, Huawei is pointing out another difference between the two phones, they posted a picture on their Twitter account showing the device in pink and the tweet reads “#HuaweiMateS in #RoseGold, from head to toe”. Rose Gold is how Apple called their pink colored version, so Huawei is pointing out how the iPhone is colored that way only on the aluminum part, as the front features a white color. The Mate S on the other hand, features a matching color on the front and even on the antenna lines, making them blend better with the rest of the design, opposed to these (severely criticized) lines in the iPhone.
