Huawei has been one of the most active smartphone manufacturers this year as far as device launches go. The company has announced quite a few devices, and has managed to increase their profits along the way. That being said, Huawei tends to have a rather strong presence at IFA in Berlin every September, and that’s the case this year as well. The has just announced their Mate S handset that has been leaking intensively for the last couple of weeks. So, let’s see what this device has to offer, shall we.
Before we start talking about the general specs of this smartphone, let’s mention somehting Huawei has been especially teasing lately, Force Touch. What is this? Well, it’s a name for a pressure-based touchscreen tech which is included in the Apple Watch as well. The variant of the device sporting Force Touch will be available at a later date, so keep that in mind. Anyhow, the Mate S features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) 2.5D AMOLED display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top. This phablet is made out of metal, just like its predecessor, the Mate7. The Huawei Mate S also packs in 3GB of RAM and a fingerprint scanner on the back. The 13-megapixel OIS camera is available on the back of this phablet, and an 8-megapixel shooter can be found up front. Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 935 SoC powers this handset, in case you were wondering.
The aforementioned fingerprint scanner is now faster than ever before, Huawei says that they managed to speed it up by 100%, and even the Mate7’s fingerprint scanner was extremely fast. The fingerprint scanner is now more capable than ever, you can use it to scroll through notifications with vertical swhipes, navigate through your photos with a horizontal swipe, answer phone calls and capture selfies. The Huawei Mate S also sports ‘Knuckle Sense 2.0’ technology, a tech that has already been used in Huawei’s devices. You can basically write certain letters (on the screen) with your knuckles in order to trigger certain apps, same goes for swipes. If you’d like to know more about Knuckle Sense, check out a separate article where we talk more about this very interesting feature.
The Huawei Mate S will be available in over 30 countries all over the world, including Japan, Germany, Spain, China… and much more. The Mate S will be available for pre-order in Western Europe starting September 15th, the 32GB model will cost €649, while the 64GB variant will set you back €699 should you choose to purchase it. Keep in mind that these are not the prices for the Force Touch variant of the device, that variant will be available at a later date it seems. That’s pretty much it, we’ll let you know if any additional info surfaces.
