This year has been a bit of a quiet one for LG so far. Sales of the LG G4 haven’t been exactly as high as LG wanted them to be, but overall the device isn’t doing too horrible. We loved it and it’s got high rankings from owners and reviewers around the web, so LG is certainly doing something right. What we haven’t seen much of, however, are additional flagship devices from LG that fill meaningful niches in the bustling smartphone market. That all looks to be changing very soon as we’re getting more and more leaks of some new LG phones that should be hitting the market sometime this fall.
Famed leaker @evleaks on Twitter just posted a brand new image of the LG Ticker, a brand new phone from LG that changes the normal single screen design of a smartphone up for something just a bit more interesting. We saw the first TENAA certification come through for this phone, which at the time was known as the LG V10, and was marked as having a secondary smaller display across the top of the device as well as a camera embedded within the screen. While those shots weren’t of the phone being on, since it’s just a communications certification in China anyway, the latest leak shows the display on and the ticker prominently displayed at the top.
What’s pretty clear at this point is that this device isn’t the LG G4 Pro that we’ve been waiting to hear about, rather a brand new device that’ll fill an interesting niche that hasn’t been seen since the Samsung Continuum many a year ago. While it’s not entirely clear what the ticker at the top will be used for all the time it’s pretty clear in this screenshot that it’s got a row of icons, most likely shortcuts that can be customized or may be tailored to your specifics needs. It’s also likely that LG will use this for other context-sensitive information sort of like Samsung does on the Galaxy Edge series of devices and could include some seriously cool things as well. Stay tuned for more leaks as they are sure to be coming in steadily from here until the announcement.
