Meizu has announced four devices this year, the Meizu M1, Meizu M2 Note, Meizu M2 and the company’s flagship, the MX5. Many people were expecting Meizu to launch the MX5 Pro, but the company denied that and said that they’re going to discontinue the ‘MX PRO’ line, and launch a new premium device instead. That being said, the company has been teasing the launch of their ‘PRO 5’ flagship for a while now, while they’ve also announce a launch event set for today. Well, Meizu has just took the wraps off their new flagship, the Meizu PRO 5 is now official, and its specs are slightly different than leaks suggested.
The Meizu PRO 5 features a 5.7-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 387 PPI) Super AMOLED 2.5D display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 on top of it. The device will be available in two variants, the first model will sport 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of native storage, while the second variant will ship with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both of these variants will support microSD expansion though, in case you need more storage. As leaks suggested, this device is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7420 64-bit octa-core processor, the same one you’ll find in all of Samsung’s flagships this year. This chip ships with a Mali T760 GPU for graphics, and is built on a 14nm manufacturing process.
The 21-megapixel camera (Sony’s IMX230 sensor, f/2.2 aperture) is available on the back of this smartphone along with a dual-LED, dual tone flash, and the Laser Autofocus. The 5-megapixel snapper (OmniVision’s OV5670 sensor, f/2.2 aperture) is located up front. The 3,050mAh battery will also be a part of this package, and you’ll also be able to take advantage of the phone’s built-in fingerprint scanner which is located below the display (mBack physical button). Meizu has also included mCharge 2.0 here, so you’ll be able to fast charge this phone as well, and there are also two SIM slots available here. The Type-C USB 3.0 port is available on this phone, but you’ll also be able to take advantage of USB 2.0 connection it seems.
The Meizu PRO 5 is made out of Magnesium Alloy used in aviation, and Android 5.0 Lollipop comes pre-installed on it with the company’s Flyme 4.5 UI available on top of Google’s operating system. The device won’t ship with Flyme 5 pre-installed after all, that update will reach this phone at a later date. The Meizu PRO 5 does offer 4G LTE connectivity as well, and supports both TD-LTE, FDD-LTE and TD-SCDMA networks. The Meizu PRO 5 measures 156.7 x 78 x 7.5mm, weighs 166 grams, and will be available in Grey, Silver White, Silver Black, Gold and Rose Gold color options, so you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. Pricing is still unknown, we’ll edit this post as soon as we get additional info.
UPDATE: The 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant of the phone will cost 2,800 Yuan ($439), and the 4GB RAM/64GB storage model will set you back 3,100 Yuan ($490) should you choose to purchase it. The device will go on sale starting October 12th in China.
