Google’s Nexus lineup has always been something of a fan favorite for loyal Android users, and since the initial launch of the Nexus One years ago the Nexus line has grown into more of a consumer-based device that also showcases Google’s vision for Android. Typically, Google releases one Android smartphone per year, and as of a few years ago they started adding onto that with a single Nexus tablet to join the phones annually. This year Google looks to be changing things up again with rumors having started much earlier in the year that Google would be foregoing a Nexus tablet and instead launch two new Nexus phones.
These have come to be known as the Huawei Nexus 6P and the LG Nexus 5X within the last week or so, and up until now there has only been speculation that this is what Google’s plans were for the name scheme of the Fall lineup. As of today some leaked images have appeared which seem to reveal the look of the new Nexus device packaging, but more than that it would seem to confirm the names for each device as Google always stamps the name of the product on the front of the box, and it’s no different here, with one box carrying the 5X branding and the other being adorned with branding of the 6P.
Google has given each phone packaging its own slightly unique design, with the 5X packaging coming in a square shape while the packaging for the 6P comes in a box with more rounded corners similar to what HTC and T-Mobile did with the One M9. Alongside the satellite image backdrop sitting behind the letters on a white box, both packages also detail the shape and design of the phone via the tiny logo beneath the name, as well as the amount of the internal storage which also seems to confirm that each model will come in a 32GB variation. It’s also quite likely of course each device could have a 64GB model as well, although previous rumors pegged the Huawei Nexus 6X as coming in a 128GB model as well. Google is expected to unveil both of these devices alongside a new Chromecast and potentially some other new “tasty treats” come September 29th when they hold a special event in San Francisco.
