This morning at an event in San Francisco, Google took the wraps off of two new Nexus devices. In the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. As expected, both models work with Project Fi, Google’s stab at becoming a wireless network. Basically it works over WiFi, Sprint and T-Mobile’s network simultaneously so that you will be using a data network for placing calls, text messages and of course browsing the web. It’s been invite only, and actually still is, as Google is slowly rolling it out. Up until today, only the Motorola-made Nexus 6 was compatible. But as of today, both the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are compatible.
While Google did mention that both devices will work with Project Fi, something they failed to mention was the fact that they both come with an option for an installment plan. Installment plans have been pretty popular in recent years. In fact, Apple is even offering one with their new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus that went on sale last week. So if you buy your Nexus for Project Fi you can get you Nexus on an installment plan that lasts about 24 months. Now you can still opt to buy the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P outright, starting at $379 and $499 respectively.
In the table down below, you can see how the prices break down for each model and each storage capacity. Now, much like Project Fi, this installment plan is for the US only. With this being for Project Fi you can easily get it on installment plan and then pause Project Fi and go back to using T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon or AT&T. This is actually the only way to get the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P on installment, considering the search giant has decided against working with carriers this time around. And instead will only sell the Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P through the Google Play store (it may come to other online retailers, but will not be available at carriers this time around).
These prices include 0% interest as well as no extra fees. It’s just the price plus taxes. The plans range from $15.79 to $27.04.
