Nexus 5X Does Sport An LED Notification Light After All

Unless you’ve been living under a rock in the last 24 hours, you know that Google held a conference yesterday, and that a company announced new hardware during that event. The Mountain View giant unveiled LG Nexus 5X, Huawei Nexus 6P, Pixel C tablet, new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices. We’ve covered each of these devices extensively already, and are here to take a closer look at the Nexus 5X, well, one particular part of the device that is, read on.

Now, if you’ve taken a closer look at the official Nexus 6P specifications, you might have noticed that the Nexus 6P lists the RGB notification LED light, while the Nexus 5X does not. Well, as it turns out, the LG-made Nexus 5X also sports the notification light, read on. According to Google’s VP of Engineering, Dave Burk, somebody at the company made a mistake by not listing the RGB notification light on Nexus 5X specs, and that they will correct it soon enough.

So, where is the LED light on the Nexus 5X? It’s located below the bottom speaker grill, and it’s actually a fully functioning notification light, not like the one on the Nexus 6 which required root in order to take advantage of it. Keep in mind that the system uses ambient display by default though, but you’ll be able to take advantage of the notification light if you want. You can always grab a third-party app from the Play Store and basically tweak this LED light the way you want, as you can on basically any other smartphone which has such a light built-in.

The LG Nexus 5X sports a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, 2GB of RAM and comes in 16 and 32GB variants. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor, and a 2,700mAh battery is also a part of this package. The 12.3-megapixel snapper is available on the back of the Nexus 5X, and a 5-megapixel shooter can be found up front. The device offers 4G LTE connectivity, and ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. The fingerprint scanner is available on the back of the phone, and the phone also features a set of front-facing stereo speakers.
