The OnePlus 2 was one of the most talked about devices of the year and as such, in the build up to the launch event, the OnePlus 2 was literally the talk of the town. That said, once the device did launch there was hints of disappointment from some of those following the news. Part of this seemed due to the releasing of some of the specs in advance which took some of the gloss off the initial launch. While another aspect that seemed to play a role was the absence of certain Android staples like NFC and any form of improved charging.
Since then though, the company has been seeing a new issue developing and this is more to do with supplying the demand for the OnePlus 2. It is no secret that the OnePlus 2 received huge interest with many signing up for the reservation list. However, OnePlus then announced a slowing down of the rolling out of invites which raised some concerns that there may be stock issues. Adding to this, recent delays in deliveries for those who had received an invite have continued the notion of stock issues.
Well, in a blog post sent out today from the company, Carl Pei made a point of apologizing for the launch of the OnePlus 2. The posting starts off with the clear statement “We messed up the launch of the OnePlus 2“, which is an aspect that continues throughout the posting. In the post, Pei goes on to acknowledge the fulfilling of orders has been much slower than had been expected or intended. In explaining the delay, Pei notes the company is still young and dealing with hardware is “hard“. In fact, during the posting, Pei makes a point of directly apologizing to the OnePlus fans, the OnePlus partners and even the OnePlus team.
Concluding out the announcement, Pei detail that they plan to try and make amends for the issues through two ways. The first is that they will no longer make promise on future product launches. The second is that they will open up sales without the need for an invite for one hour. Although, specifics on when this will happen were not provided.
