Hitting the 1 billion installs milestone is a huge thing for the app developers, and perhaps in some way it affects the users too. If an app is getting this many installs then it means the developers are likely doing something right, and the majority of users are likely happy with the user experience of the app whether it’s the functionality, the UI and design, or both. In any case, a new app has hit the 1 billion installs mark, and it’s none other than Google’s Play Newsstand application which many are already probably familiar with. Keep in mind this is a Google application, so it’s also probably preinstalled in many of the newer Android devices.
Now that Play Newsstand has hit 1 billion installs, it joins the ranks alongside other apps in the club like Play Music, Hangouts, Chrome, Whatsapp, Facebook, Messenger (by Facebook) and others. It’s also worth noting although probably obvious in that regard, that many of the apps which have at least 1 billion installs are namely from Google and Facebook. This is for the majority at least. This should be expected, given the popularity and well-known aura both companies have about their products. People know and use what both Google and Facebook provide on a daily basis, so with as many Android handsets out there as there are these days, this shouldn’t be a huge shock to anyone. That of course doesn’t make the situation any less awe inspiring to see how far things have come since these services were still brand new.
For those that have never used Play Newsstand though, it’s actually quite a decent news reading app that not only has a great material design user interface, but it opens up the possibility to be fed tons of content from tons of different publishers. Having said all this, remember this is the data of the install numbers only which many of may come from those who buy a phone with the app preinstalled, then activate their Google account on the device. When it comes to actual user numbers on a consistent monthly basis, those could be quite different. In any case, Play Newsstand is free, and you can grab it from the Play Store if you don’t already have it to give it a shot.
