The Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are barely in our hands, and we’re already starting to see the rumor mill spin regarding the Galaxy S7. Recently, we’ve heard that Samsung has increased the team that is working on the Snapdragon 820 to include it in the Galaxy S7. We also heard this morning, that Samsung is looking to release the Galaxy S7 in two sizes. Now we have some more rumors surfacing, this time from Weibo – which is essentially China’s own version of Twitter. The rumors are pointing to Samsung adding back the microSD card slot. Which wouldn’t be hard to do. Many OEMs, including Alcatel OneTouch and others, have added a microSD card slot inside the SIM card tray on their phones.
The rumor mill is also spinning, and stating that Samsung will retain the sealed battery with its unibody design. There really isn’t a way to have a removable battery with a unibody design. And users will likely still be upset but at least they will have their expandable storage back. Which Samsung removed this year with the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5. However, their tablets retained it. This move made many of their fans unhappy, and could have contributed to their poor sales this year.
It appears that Samsung is looking to build on the design language they started with this year with the Galaxy S6, and make it even better with the Galaxy S7. And that’s exactly what they should be doing. The tipster on Weibo is stating that the Galaxy S7 is envisioned as coming in 32GB and 64GB models only. But if you can add in SanDisk’s latest 200GB microSD card inside the Galaxy S7, I don’t think many would complain. That should be plenty of storage for most of us.
Currently, we’re still about 6 months or more, away from the launch of the Galaxy S7. We’re looking at a Mobile World Congress launch, likely, again in 2016. Which generally takes place at the end of February or early March. So there’s bound to be many more rumors floating around between now and then.
