OnePlus is a company who has seen unprecedented growth over the last year. To put it into perspective, not much longer than a year ago, the company was virtually unheard of. Since then, they have managed to shift a considerable number of OnePlus One devices (for a debut device from an unknown company) and significantly more than even they expected. Not forgetting, they have also now released their second OnePlus device and in spite of some reservations from users, the waiting list for the OnePlus 2 is growing by the day and already well into the millions. As such, this is a company in the middle of its growth spurt and like any company in this position, expansion of infrastructure is always going to be on their mind.
In contrast, HTC have been seeing one of the worst years for sometime. On the back of reduced excitement and underachieving sales of their latest flasgship device, the HTC One M9, the company has repeatedly been reporting declines in their sales and revenues. In fact, the latest HTC declining report emerged only this morning and highlighted this is their fifth consecutive decline announcement. This has also come on the back of multiple reports that the company is thinking of downsizing, restructuring the company and maybe even selling some assets.
Well the latest rumor doing the rounds is that OnePlus might be thinking of picking up an old HTC production factory in Shenzhen, China. From the OnePlus perspective, this would make sense as the company has become notoriously known for lacking sufficient production measures to fulfill demand for their devices. While from HTC’s perspective, this will fall in line with the more recent downsizing and restructuring news. If you are wondering where this latest rumor stems from, it seems it was circulating behind the scenes last week in China and what is causing the fueling today is OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau, posted an image of himself outside HTC’s office which has now sparked the speculation that OnePlus is at least in talks about picking up some of the HTC disused production facilities. Of course, with anything like this, this is just a rumor for now.
