Samsung’s A series is a nice line of mid-range smartphones featuring a simple but elegant design, metal frames and solid hardware. Currently, it is comprised by the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A8 handsets. These phones had a good reception in the market and reports suggest Samsung is preparing to launch a new member to the line, upgraded versions of the already existing devices, and a new breed of accessories to accompany these handsets. The new phone is expected to be called Galaxy A9, according to internal sources to Samsung-specialized website SamMobile.
If you are unfamiliar with them, the Galaxy A3 is the smaller in the series, featuring a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC running at 1.2 GHz with 1.5 GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. The A5 offers a bigger 5 inches screen and 2GB of RAM for the same processor, with a 13MP rear camera. The Galaxy A7 offers better specs with a more powerful octa-core Snapdragon 615 (or the Exynos 5) processor and a high-resolution 5.5-inch screen. The Galaxy A8 is the thinnest smartphone ever made by Samsung, offering a nice metallic body at only 5.9mm. It features a 5.7-inch screen, fingerprint reader, 32 GB of internal storage and a 16 MP rear camera. As we reported last week, the model names of the new phones are SM-A310F, SM-A510F and SM-A710F models numbers for Russia, and SM-A5100, SM-A7100 for China, which are similar to these of the current devices. As such, don’t expect big changes here, only a few upgrades, although there isn’t any information regarding what Samsung may be up to.
While the A3 and A5 were released about a year ago, in October 2014, the A7 came to life in February and the A8 was released just a month ago. Since manufacturers usually launch a new version within a one-year timespan, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the launch of these devices in the coming months. Earlier this year, Samsung trademarked the names A6, A8, and A9, so there may be more to come. The A8 already hit the market, the A9 is allegedly in the works and we are yet to hear from the A6.
