The recent controversy surrounding the S Pen notwithstanding, Samsung seems pretty gung-ho about its Galaxy Note 5, and the enhanced functionalities of the stylus that comes with it. The company has gone to great lengths to point out the fact that it has been striving to offer more functions with its S Pen, and with the Note 5, Samsung believes that it has been able to make what it considers to be its most advanced S Pen ever. Now, in a series of videos posted on the company’s official YouTube channel, the South Korean consumer electronics company is attempting to highlight the myriad new use cases for its newly designed S Pen, which includes writing directly on pdf files without needing to open them with a compatible pdf editor, the capturing of long webpages as a scrolling screenshot and adding custom app shortcuts to the Air Command.
Styluses are all the rage now, with more and more manufacturers looking at the device as a way to increase productivity. While Apple’s recently announced ‘Apple Pencil’ has put the focus of the mainstream media on the humble little electronic device, Android users have, for long, had the option of using styluses with their smartphones and tablets, in spite of the fact that most tablets even today, are not designed with the stylus in mind. Recent reports however, have indicated that the popularity of styluses will increase over the next year or two, helping the niche device graduate from being a leftover from the PDA era to a necessity for mainstream consumers.
As for Samsung’s Galaxy Note series smartphones, it is one of the first mainstream smartphone lineups to consistently offer the stylus as a way of increasing the functionality of the smartphone. The fifth generation Galaxy Note smartphone follows earlier devices in the lineup in offering a stylus that can be tucked away inside the phone itself. The Galaxy Note 5, which features a 5.7-inch QHD display panel, was introduced by Samsung back in August, alongside the equally large Galaxy S6 Edge+, although that particular phablet does not incorporate a stylus, unlike the Note 5.
