Sony Announces Xperia Z5 Compact at IFA 2015

Kaz Hirai is currently on stage at Sony’s booth in Berlin announcing the new Xperia Z5 series, which includes the Xperia Z5 Compact. The design of the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact look much the same as their previous models. That’s not a huge surprise, really. It’ll also be available in a few colors including yellow, coral, white and black. Sony is touting the camera and audio quality of the Xperia Z5 Compact. Sony is also touting that you still get two days of battery life with the Xperia Z5 Compact, probably one of the most underrated features of their older devices. Sony’s Battery Stamina features return, as we also get Quick Charge 2.0 compatibility with the Compact.

The Xperia Z5 Compact features a 4.6-inch display which is great for one-handed use. The Compact is also powered by the Snapdragon 810, much like it’s bigger brothers in the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium. Sony has also integrated a fingerprint sensor into the home button, much like the newly announced Nextbit Robin has done. This way you can press the power button and unlock your phone with your fingerprint all at the same time. Without adding another button or a physical home button. Much like with the Xperia Z3+/Z4, there is no cap on the USB port, which means while it’s still waterproof, you don’t have these flaps getting in the way when you need to charge your device.

With the Xperia Z5 Series, Sony has also brought in their high-res audio, which reproduces a high frequency sound for  studio quality experience from your smartphone. This works with all three models of the Xperia Z5. Sony’s LDAC codec also transmits data three times more efficiently than legacy codec over Bluetooth. Also providing great sounding Audio. Sony has also announced their MDR-NC750 headset, which allows you to get hi-res audio along with digital noise cancellation.

As expected, PS4 Remote Play is available on the Xperia Z5 Compact. Which means you are able to play games from your PlayStation 4 onto your Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact or Xperia Z5 Premium. You can use it at home over your WiFi network along with your Dualshock 4 wireless controller. For the times that someone else is using the TV and you still want to play some Rocket League.

Sony is also offering a range of accessories with the Xperia Z5 Compact. We have Style Cover Window cases, which will be available at launch in the same colors as the Xperia Z5 Compact will be available in. There’s also the Stereo Bluetooth Headset SBH54 which is designed for those that want a companion to a large screen smartphone, so this is more for the Xperia Z5 than the Compact model.

Availability of the Xperia Z5 Compact begins in October. The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium will begin in November and they will be available in single and dual-SIM variants. The Xperia Z5 Compact will only be in a single-SIM variant, at least for now.
