The Xperia Z5 was announced during IFA 2015 in Berlin, and it being one more in a long line of Sony smartphones to sport the Xperia Z name, it could be confusing as to exactly what’s under-the-hood. So, we’re going to rundown exactly what the Xperia Z5 has underneath all that smooth glass.
Running the show is the Snapdragon 810, an octa-core 64-bit CPU with the Adreno 340 GPU, backed up by 3GB of RAM. Speaking of gigabytes, the Xperia Z5 will be available in either 16GB or 32GB configurations but will support microSD expansion up to 200GB. Depending on where you are in the world, you might be able to get a dual SIM version of the Xperia Z5, but otherwise it supports a nano SIM. There’s a 5.2-inch Full HD display, that’s 1920 x 1080, of the IPS variety and keeping everything ticking is a non-removable 2,900 mAh battery. The Xperia Z5 should support LTE networks and GSM networks all over the world.
A fingerprint scanner is located on the right-hand side of the device and acts as the power button along with the volume rocker and dedicated camera key located on the same side.
The camera around back is a 23-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with an f/2.0, 24mm ‘G’ series lens capable of 4K recording. There’s sensitivity up to ISO 12,800 for photos and ISO 4,000 for video along 5x ‘ClearZoom’ magnification. Around front, there’s a 5-megapixel Exmor R sensor with a 25mm wide-angle lens capable of 108op video. Sound wise, there are two stereo front-facing speakers, support for all audio codes as well as DSEE-HX which will upscale MP3 files to 24-bit audio for a superior listening experience.
The Xperia Z5 weighs 154g and measures just 146mm x 72mm and is just 7.3mm thick while the frosted glass frame is IP65 and IP68 dust and water resistance. This makes the Xperia Z5 a device that’s submersible for 30 minutes at a depth no deeper than 1.5 meters. Available in black, white, green and gold the Xperia Z5 goes on sale around the globe October, 2015.
