Indiegogo is next to Kickstarter one of the most popular crowdsourcing platforms out there. We oftenly see some really interesting products being pitched by various companies, and we’re here to talk about such a product. The company called ‘Symetium’ is raising $1,250,000 in order to fund what they call ‘The no-compromise Smartphone PC’. This company is based in Sweden, and this is a very ambitious project. Anyhow, let’s see what’s it all about, shall we.
Symetium’s ambitious smartphone is a very well-specced device with a number of interesting features. This smartphone, if the company managed to get enough cash, will sport a 5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) OLED display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 on top of it. The phone will also feature 6GB of RAM and 64/128/256GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 is said to fuel this smartphone, and a 4,000mAh battery will also be a part of the package. The 24-megapixel snapper will be located on the back of this phone, and a 5-megapixel shooter available up front. Furthermore, the phone would sport a set of front-facing stereo speakers, and would offer support for 4G LTE (bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/20/28). The phone’s listed dimensions are 130 x 63 x 6mm, and it is going to weight 150 grams. Type-C USB 3.0 port has also been mentioned, and the phone would also be water and dust resistant thanks to the IP67 certification. The device would ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed, with Symetium’s own OS placed on top of it.
Now, the Indiegogo campaign also mentions that the phone would be able to connect to multiple screens at once and stream its UI. The company’s Android-based OS would be called SymetiumOS, and would be rather interesting in terms of the design, as you can see in the videos and images down below. If you connect this smartphone to an HDMI screen via its Type-C USB 3.0 port, you’d be able to automatically activate the mouse and keyboard mode for it, which is interesting, and the OS would offer both portrait and landscape modes. The applications you have installed on the phone would be organized into categories, and the whole OS looks significantly different than what we’re used to.
This smartphone was designed by Jonathan Gustafsson, who says that he has been designing this smartphone for three years. ”With Symetium, I want to go past mobile operating systems and join the two together. It is time for phones to stop being phones as they are much more than that and have been for years,” he said, while he also added the following: “In my eyes Symetium will always be a 5 inch portable computer that can make calls and that’s how it was built. This means that there will be no limitation when it’s used without a SIM card”.
