Fall is a time for flavors of spices, changing colors, falling leaves, family get-togethers’, and of course, new Nexus hardware. Google’s event held today in San Francisco has perhaps bore the most important fruit from the Android harvest, the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, Google’s posterchildren for the Android ecosystem and a showcase of what Android can be. Together with LG who is one of their hardware partners this year, Google has brought forth the Nexus 5X as a 2015 refresh of the classic Nexus favorite, the original Nexus 5 from 2013 also manufactured by LG.
Like nearly every single other Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 5X sports an internal and non-removable battery, but the question is, is it any better than previous generation devices. There’s no doubt that each iteration of the Nexus has gotten better and better battery life and that isn’t just due to the advancements in the hardware technology, but also the advancements of the Android software that now know how to make better use of those batteries. So what’s the scoop on the battery in the Nexus 5X? For starters, it’s packing a battery with a capacity of 2700mAh, which is certainly nothing to be ashamed of, especially when you compare it to the 2300mAh battery in the original Nexus 5. How it holds up in real world use still remains to be seen but things are looking like they’re off to a good start.
Since the Nexus 5X is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor it will support Quick Charge 2.0, and it now comes with a USB Type-C connector for charging instead of the previously used micro USB ports still seen on most phones, which will help the device charge up fast as well (users can get almost four hours of use after just a ten minute charge) so users can spend less time waiting for their phone to charge and more time doing the important things that need to get done during the day. As a recap, the Nexus 5X will be available for pre-order starting later today for $379.99 for the 16GB model, and $429.99 for the 32GB model, with units beginning to ship in October.
