Xiaomi has had some exciting news to share with us a couple of days ago. China’s number one smartphone OEM has unveiled their new smartphone, the Mi 4c, along with the surprising news that the company is becoming an MVNO. The Mi 4c sports really solid specifications, and is more than affordable. We’re not here to talk about the Mi 4c though, we’ve already covered the launch of that device at length, and if you’d like to check out its drop test perhaps, click here. That being said, a new Xiaomi-related report surfaced in China lately, courtesy of a Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang, read on.
I don’t know if you recall, but a report came in a couple of days ago from Inventec, more or less confirming that the company is working with Xiaomi on manufacturing a laptop for next year. Well, Mr. Jiutang basically confirmed this info, while he also had something else to add. This China-based analyst has also confirmed that Xiaomi is working on the 2nd-gen Mi Pad, and that the tablet is due to arrive before the end of this year. He did not mention anything about a Windows or Android variant of the tablet, just the fact that the tablet will land before the end of this year, but at least an Android-powered version is a given at this point.
Mr. Jiutang has also talked about the company’s upcoming Mi 5 flagship. The Xiaomi Mi 4 was announced back in July 2014, so it seems a bit odd Xiaomi still didn’t announce its successor. Well, according to the analyst, Xiaomi might launch this phone before the end of the year, but they might also wait for Q1 2016 in order to do it. Why? The launch allegedly depends on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC. If Xiaomi truly intends to wait for the Snapdragon 820 to become available to OEMs, then we won’t see this phone launch before Q1 2016, because the chip won’t become available sooner than that. That’s more or less it, it seems like Xiaomi has some interesting products for us down the pipeline, and we’ll see at least one of them launched before the end of 2015, stay tuned.
