Earlier this year Acer unveiled that they would be taking a heavy-handed approach to gaming with a collection of multiple gaming-focused products spanning across the PC, smartphone, and tablet markets. Included in these groups were things from full on gaming laptops, to monitors and a couple gaming tablets, as well as a smartphone all part of what Acer is calling its ‘Predator’ lineup. While we’ve seen pictures and even gotten some hands-on with the Predator tablet, there has yet to be much in the way of the Acer Predator 6, its gaming-focused smartphone which should come in with some hard-hitting specs for a truly powerful gaming experience on mobile.
Today, some hands-on shots of the Predator 6 have surfaced on the web, showing in all its glory what it looks like close up. Although there were brief showings of the imagery for the Acer Predator 6 back during IFA 2015 just last month, these images would be the first to show the phone in close proximity with much better detail. Acer is still making the final decisions on some of the hardware specifications for the upcoming device, but they have opened up about a few key hardware details that give us a better idea of what this phone may be capable of, some of which seem to be the same as what they stated back in September.
While there aren’t many specifics, the Predator 6 features a four-speaker setup on the front which should deliver some pretty good audio quality to help immerse gamers in what they’re playing, and that’s the idea. Acer wants this to be a force to be reckoned with in the mobile gaming world, and whether that ends up being the case or not, it already looks menacing enough to hold its own. Still, it’s unclear whether its bark is worse than its bite as Acer hasn’t let anyone have hands on time with a powered on unit yet to test games, so there’s no way to know how it performs. Aside from the speakers on the front face, the screen itself is 6-inches, although it isn’t known which panel type they’re using.
In terms of hardware under the hood, Acer went with the MediaTek Helio X20 CPU that carries ten cores (two Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.5GHz and 8 Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz) meant to give the phone some immense gaming performance but also enough cores to handle the more mundane tasks while it keeps a couple cores dedicated to things like gaming. According to Acer’s unveiling of the phone last month, the Predator 6 also comes with 4GB of RAM, and a 21MP rear-facing camera. It also comes packing a rather large and hopefully sufficient 4,000mAh battery. Right now there’s no detail on price or launch regions, but sometime in the Spring of 2016 seems to be the potential launch date, although there is always a possibility of that changing to be earlier or later.
