Android Pay was announced earlier this year in the Summer time and was officially launched last month in the beginning of September, and while not everywhere supports the payment system just yet, a new report suggests that Android Pay will become the dominant mobile payment solution between it and Apple Pay in the future, grabbing up the largest share of the mobile payments market worldwide, and stating that because Android Pay is compatible with more handsets than Apple Pay this makes it a ripe candidate for the top solution for those wishing to use their smartphone to make payments for purchases, although having more handsets which can use the app is not the only reason why it could come out on top in the long run.
In addition to having more compatible handsets (Android Pay’s only requirement is that the phone has NFC and runs Android 4.4 KitKat, which most devices have at this point) it’s also suggested that Android Pay will gain more favor with banking institutions and retailers because of the fact that more handsets can use the app compared to the more limited number of iPhones which have Apple Pay installed and usable. Android Pay also does not require the use of the fingerprint sensor for the service to work, although this is a functional layer of security that can be added if a device has a fingerprint sensor embedded.
While there is no way to know for sure if Android Pay will become top dog in the mobile payments world over Apple’s solution, Android users seem to have every reason to utilize it over Apple Pay. They’re likely to get more rewards through loyalty programs and chances are it already works with their device, where as Apple users would need to be on one of the latest Apple handsets. One caveat might be that Apple Pay is potentially considered to be the more secure of the two which might sway some users to opt for an iPhone and Apple Pay over Android and Android Pay. Whatever the case may be though, both mobile payment solutions are set to be accessible at tons of different retailers, making easier than over to buy things without having to tote around your wallet and credit cards.
