Mobile games are becoming bigger and bigger these days, with more console game publishers and development studios turning part of their focus and attention to launching titles on mobile. While companies like Square Enix have been releasing mobile titles for a couple of years or more, mobile is still uncharted waters for many. One of those companies is Respawn Entertainment which many will recognize as the team behind the popular Xbox and PC franchise ‘Titanfall’ that launched last year. As of this morning Respawn Entertainment has announced that mobile spinoff games in the Titanfall franchise are coming out sometime in 2016 with a launch on both Android and iOS.
Respawn won’t be doing these games on their own, rather they will be teaming up with mobile game company Nexon and Particle City who will in partnership help create the game(s). Particle City is an obvious choice for the development of the Titanfall mobile titles as Respawn’s Co-Founder, Vince Zampella, also helped Co-Found Particle City. Fans of the original series looking to get their hands on a mobile port shouldn’t expect a similar experience to what they’re already used to with the console/PC game, as plans for the mobile title is to build an entirely new type of Titanfall game from the ground up, likely meant just for the mobile platform.
Respawn, Particle City, and Nexon may not be looking to bring their popular first-person shooter to phones and tablets, but they do plan on delivering a “rich mobile experience” to users. While those details are still fairly vague, giving nothing up in the way of specifics, anyone who has enjoyed Titanfall in its original form has cause to be excited at the idea of something in the series being made specifically for mobile devices, even if there is no indication of what the gameplay might be like yet. As of right now there is no detail on a specific launch date in 2016, just that the first game launch is planned for sometime next year. The timing could still change of course as many things could happen between now and then that could initiate a delay.
