Auto-Fill Content Now Shows In Keyboard In Chrome Dev App

Yesterday it was discovered that Google added in some new things to tinker with into the Chrome Dev channel for Android, which included enhanced bookmarks, and a more useful “offline pages” mode that would allow users to save pages for offline viewing if you were ever without an internet connection. Both of these feature had to be enabled from within the Chrome Dev app, and had to be accessed from the chrome://flags where you could enable each feature. The latest Chrome Dev update seems to bring in even more things tweak with so if you’re someone who already has the latest version of that app installed you can jump right into things.

As for what the latest new function is, it has to do with the auto-fill feature. If you’re in the Chrome Dev app and then you tap in a text entry box where auto-fill has already saved the information (so basically on a website you have used in Chrome Dev before) it’ll populate the text you were going to type up in the keyboard section, when normally Chrome will populate the text saved with auto-fill on the webpage. When you log into an account, any account, the auto-fill feature would normally populate a drop-down box directly over the top of the password text box, now that drop-down box doesn’t show up at all since there’s no need. Auto-fill will throw your text entry in the keyboard in the auto-complete bar. You can then tap it to have Chrome toss that info where it needs to be.

While anyone that is using the newest version of Chrome Dev can mess around with this to see how it works and if they like it, it may never show up as a feature of the stable version of the app which is what gets pre-installed on some Android devices. If you’re looking to play with it yourself, download and install Chrome Dev for Android, then tap on the address bar and type in chrome://flags and scroll to find the new feature listed here. Once enabled you can test it out. Keep in mind this is also where you can enable the offline pages mode.
