Google Photos is proving to be an extremely popular app. This is a young app in terms of its age, as it was only unveiled at this year’s I/O event back towards the end of May. However, last week saw the news come through that the app has already attracted more than 100 million users. Which is pretty impressive considering how long it has been available.
Of course, one of the reasons the app is being adopted so quickly and by so many, is due to the level and variance of features on offer. When the app was released, this was one which instantly came with some neat features thanks to the Photos Assistant which helps collate or merge images for you automatically. Since then, Google has routinely rolled out updates to the Photos app and ones which add even more features. The most recent being an update which began rolling out last month and offered the ability to custom label people or places and also added support for Chromecast.
Well, it is a new month and keeping up with their routine updates, the latest update is now on its way to the app and this one will bring the app up to version 1.8. At the moment, the details on what’s new are limited although an interesting feature which has already been picked up by Android Police, is that you can essentially hide people. This seems to be a feature which is more aimed towards filtering out images that you do not want to see, images of people who are irrelevant to your timeline or image collection. It is worth noting that the hiding does not seem to have any long-lasting effects and as such, hiding people does not alter the actual images and instead simply blocks them from your Gallery view. Not to mention, you can always unhide them whenever you need or want.
