Seemingly out of nowhere, Fossil have officially taken wraps off of their Android Wear-powered Smartwatch, put together in collaboration with Google and Intel. The watch has been teased for some time now, but the fashion brand has finally come out and announced it officially, via a press release. It’s called the Q Founder, and will join the rest of the Q lineup of connected accessories, which include fitness trackers for both men and women.
There’s little known about the watch so far, aside from the above two pictures, and that it will be powered by an Intel processor of some sort. We do know however, that it will cost $275 and go on sale – according to Fossil – “just in time for the holiday shopping season “. As Fossil have released very few details about the new device, it’s hard to tell whether or not this will ship with a custom version of Android Wear, or simply run the stock software that similar watches from LG and Motorola have been using. Speaking of Motorola, the Fossil Q Founder seems to feature the same “flat tire” design that debuted with the original and is still here with the second-generation Moto 360. As far as design looks go, it would appear that the Q Founder will be available in either a leather band or a stainless steel band, but whether or not there’s going to be different sizes or other colors is unclear.
The whole Q line from Fossil seems to be an attempt to offer up a more modern approach to the designs that the company has been selling for decades now, but it doesn’t appear as though there’s much of that Fossil DNA in these devices. Still, that does mean that these will work with both Android and iOS devices. If you still want a little more brain, but don’t like the look of the Q Founder, there’s the Q Grant, which will sync with Google Fit, Under Armour Record as well as UP by Jawbone. That watch will offer up some sort of functionality for notifications as well, and will be available starting October 25th for around $175-$195
