Google’s Play Music service has come to be one of the most popular services available, and the monthly subscription allows for streaming of nearly anything available in the music section of the Play Store. Yesterday it looked as though Google was going to make some changes which would make it a little more enticing, by allowing people to gift music in some way, shape, or form. In the Play Store support page under play store gift cards section, there was a reference to something called Music Gifts, which at the time was unclear what it could be. It’s now officially clear that Music Gifts was Google’s plan to allow people to gift Play Music unlimited subscriptions to other users.
As of today some users in Australia are reporting that they are now able to send Play Music subscriptions as gifts, as a new option located in the settings page of Play Music titled “send gift” opens up three different options. Users can opt to send Play Music subscriptions as gifts in three varying amounts of one, three, and six-month subscriptions each with their own associated amount of A$11.99, A$35.97, and A$71.94. Keep in mind that the costs from the screenshots below are for those in the Australian version of Play Music, so the costs don’t reflect what the costs will be here for the U.S. Chances are that since the cost for one month in the U.S. is $9.99, the one, three, and six-month subs will likely cost, $9.99, $29.99, and $59.99, although this is just speculation.
At the moment it’s unknown if only users in Australia are seeing the Music Gifts pop up, but on the support page reference it lists Australia alongside a handful of other regions where Music Gifts will be available. These regions also included the U.S., UK, Germany, Canada, France, and Spain, so if you live in any of those countries you can be on the lookout for Music Gifts as they may show up throughout the day for other users outside of Australia. If you know someone who has been wanting to try Play Music, these new Music Gifts seem to be showing up at just the right time with holidays coming up.
