Google Reveals Reasoning Behind YouTube Red Name

It was earlier today that Google revealed their new premium YouTube service known as YouTube Red. The service was one that has been highly rumored about for quite a long time but now that the service is finally out it’s been leaving some consumers curious as to the reasoning behind the name. After all the name YouTube Red have been spreading like wildfire because of an adult explicit website known as RedTube. This could cause some confusion when an individual searches the web with search terms “red” and “Tube”. However, it looks like Google is not afraid of any mishaps, find out what Google thinks of the new premium name.

First of all for those unaware of YouTube Red, this is a premium service that’s been rumored about for the past few years. For $9.99 a month consumers will be able to remove advertisements on their subscription videos with some select channels offering original content as an incentive to pay the monthly fee. While it’s $9.99 for mobile and desktop users, it’s worth noting that consumers that rely on their iOS device to supply YouTube then there is a slight bump in price to $12.99 due to Apple charging a 30% premium.

As for the name decision, a Google YouTube executive discussed the name during a press Q&A. According to the executive, the name red holds a special place in Google’s heart as red is often associated with YouTube. Digging into in deeper, the YouTube executive stated that red also holds a special meaning with love along with the red carpet.

As for the explicit website RedTube, Google is not concerned with their premium services being mixed up with content that is not provided by their video hosting service. Instead, because Google is such a massive name, the search terms for Red and Tube may very likely pull Google’s YouTube Red before it RedTube outranks them in SEO. Currently, the service is not available right now as YouTube Red will be releasing towards the end of this month on October 28th.
