A report came through yesterday which has some serious repercussions on how you purchase certain Google hardware. If you missed the report, then it looks like Amazon has decided to not stock or sell items like the Chromecast or the Nexus Player on Amazon after October 29th. Part of the reason is that Amazon would like to avoid “confusion” by not stocking items which do not work with services like Amazon’s Instant Video service. This is actually in spite of Amazon seeming to continue to refuse to make an Instant Video Android app widely available.
Of course, with items like the Chromecast or the Nexus Player, you can always just purchase them through the Google Store. Them along with pretty much any Google affiliated hardware. But what do you do if they are out of stock? Well, it seems that in the future you will simply register your interest via a waiting list on the Google Store.
It seems this is a feature that Google is about to turn on at the Google Store. Android Police this morning is reporting that the feature is good to go and can be seen in the JavaScript already. Therefore, it just needs to be activated on Google’s end to go live. According to the report, the feature will allow users to add their name to a waiting list for any product which is currently out of stock. Once added, users will be able to see if the waiting list has already filled up and will receive an email when it is back in stock and ready to purchase. Pretty much like how a waiting list is supposed to work really. There is no current details on when the feature is expected to go live, although as it is ready, the assumption is that it won’t be too long. Whether this was a precautionary measure Google put in place to combat what they hope is an influx in Huawei Nexus 6P & LG Nexus 5X sales is unknown. Although, it might come in handy for those looking to pick up a Chromecast or Nexus Player after October 29th.
