Google started a trend among device manufacturers a long time ago by releasing key apps like Gmail to the Play Store, and big name manufacturers have been following suit. This makes a lot of sense for manufacturers to do, because they can update or fix bugs in singular apps without the need to go through testing a full system update. This gets the necessary fixes in the hands of users quicker, and reduces the amount of work that engineers and app designers need to do, as they don’t need to prepare an OTA update for each and every little thing.
A new app from HTC has joined the likes of the HTC Clock, HTC Scribble in the form of HTC Restore. This new app is only compatible with devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or above, and there’s only one reason that it would appear at the beginning of this week; the HTC One A9. The rumored device, that looks a lot like an iPhone, has leaked out over the past few weeks, and one of the key features would be that it would be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This latest app to hit the Play Store pretty much confirms that the new One A9 device will be running Marshmallow, as none of their other devices will be able to take advantage of it right now.
The One A9 is all set to be launch tomorrow, and while there are conflicting reports about what’s going to be on the inside of the phone, a 5.0-inch form factor seems to be the settled-upon size for the A9. As for the design of the device, well it appears that HTC has taken more than a little inspiration from the latest iPhone devices. In a nutshell though, this seems to be a simple migration app for HTC users to make it nice and easy to switch the new One A9.
