Chinese smartphone market is the biggest smartphone market in the world. There are tons of smartphone OEMs currently selling smartphones there, and new ones keep on coming. Most of these companies are not that well known, but there are a handful of those which you’ve heard of many times before, like Huawei, Xiaomi, ZTE, Letv and Meizu, for example. Well, Huawei and Xiaomi are currently the top dogs in China, these two companies are constantly trading places up top, and after Xiaomi’s reign, Huawei has taken over the top spot in Q3 2015.
A China-based analyst has released some sales and market share info when it comes to these two companies recently, and a Canalys, a research company, more or less confirmed that, even though they did not share specific numbers just yet. Canalys has reported that Huawei is back on top in China, and Xiaomi is now a second-placed smartphone OEM in that Asian country. Huawei’s shipments grew 81% year-over-year, according to Canalys, while Xiaomi’s shipments have declined.
Both of these companies have released a number of compelling devices this year. Huawei has introduced Honor 7, Honor 7i, Mate S… and a couple of more smartphone options, while the company also released their MediaPad M2 tablet, and an Android Wear-powered Huawei Watch smartwatch. Xiaomi, on the other hand, unveiled Xiaomi Mi Note, Mi Note Pro, Redmi Note 2, Mi 4i, Mi 4c… and a number more devices since the beginning of this year.
That being said, it will surely going to be interesting how will these two companies fare in the fourth quarter of this year. Xiaomi still has time to wrap up this year as the number one smartphone OEM in China, and we’ll see if they’ll manage to sell 80 million devices before the end of 2015, which is a sales goal the company set for themselves a while ago. As a side note, Xiaomi has sold 35 million devices in the first half of this year, so they can still reach that number. Xiaomi is expected to announce their Mi 5 flagship before the end of this year, while Huawei will probably unveil the company’s Mate 8 flagship phablet soon as well. Either way, stay tuned.
