This past week, Verizon and Motorola sent out invites to an event on October 27th in New York City to announce a couple of new Droids, that will of course be exclusive to big red. We’ve been hearing rumors of the Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 for quite some time, and now we have a pretty big leak regarding both devices, thanks to the folks at Droid Life who got their hands on some brochures that outline a number of features on both smartphones.
Let’s start with the Droid Turbo 2. The Droid Turbo 2 will be available with a shatterproof display, as we’ve heard in many leaks before. This means that you can drop your phone all you want, and that screen just won’t shatter. Definitely a good thing to have here. Additionally it will have Moto Maker support. Now this may not sound like a huge deal, but really, it is. The Droid Turbo 2 will be the first Droid to have Moto Maker support. While none of the options have been announced, we do know it’ll be available in a slew of colors. So we may see some pretty cool materials as well, maybe kevlar or ballistic nylon similar to what the original Droid Turbo had last year.
Onto the Droid Maxx 2. Motorola keeping this one pretty simple, 48-hour battery life. Motorola doesn’t state how big the battery is in this leaked brochure, but it pretty much looks to be a Moto X Play that is in Europe, and was announced to not be making it to the US (Gee, I wonder why?). Droid Life does say there will be some customization here with the Droid Maxx 2, however it likely won’t be Moto Maker. Instead, we’ll have removable backs and shells. Similar to what we have on the Moto G and Moto E. Not the best alternative, but not the worst either. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to have that shatterproof display that the Droid Turbo 2 has.
Pricing has not been announced yet, expect that on October 27th though, however it is very likely that these will be set at different price points. Possibly $100 separating the two models. Of course, we’ll find out more in about 10 days time.
