Meizu has released 5 devices thus far this year, with PRO 5 being their latest offering. The Meizu PRO 5 is the company’s flagship smartphone, and it was announced last month in China. That being said, Meizu has started teasing the announcement of another smartphone for October 21st, which is today. We’ve seen quite a few leaks pop up saying that this will be a Meizu M2 Note-like smartphone made out of metal, but that it will be powered by YunOS. Well, the leaks were quite accurate, and the company has just unveiled that smartphone in China, read on.
The Meizu Blue Charm Metal is made out of metal, aluminum to be more precise. This is not regular aluminum though, Meizu says that it contains some cobalt, titanium and other rare metals in it, which makes it even lighter and more durable as well. You might think that the phone won’t be available in a number of colors just because it’s made out of metal, well, that’s not the case. Just like every other ‘Blue Charm’ or ‘M’ (international naming) Meizu has released thus far, this smartphone is available in a range of color options as well. The Blue Charm Metal will be available in White, Gray, Gold, Pink and Blue color variants.
As far as specs go, this smartphone features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080, 403 PPI) LTPS 2.5D curved display along with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16/32GB (eMMC 5.0) of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 128GB via microSD card). The device is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X10 (MT6795) 64-bit octa-core processor, and the phone has scored more than 51,000 on AnTuTu. The 13-megapixel shooter is available on the back of this phone (PDAF included, 0.2-second autofocus, f/2.2 aperture) along with a dual-LED, dual tone flash. The 5-megapixel snapper can be found on the front side of this smartphone, Alibaba’s YunOS comes pre-installed in this phone (with Flyme 5 on top of it), and 4G LTE connectivity is also a part of this package. It is also worth mentioning that the phone ships with a non-removable 3,140mAh battery, and that the physical home button up front doubles as a fingerprint scanner (mTouch).
This is more or less it, the device will be available in China only, which was to be expected due to YunOS which comes pre-installed on the device. Meizu still hasn’t shared any pricing or availability info, but we’ll update this article once they do.
UPDATE: The 16GB variant of the phone is priced at 1,099 Yuan ($173), and the 32GB model will be available for 1,299 Yuan ($205). The phone will be available starting November 2nd, but it won’t ship immediately it seems, November 2nd is probably the date when pre-orders will kick off.
