In Motorola land, it has been a bit of an unexpected busy news morning. Probably for Motorola too. Being one of the companies who likes to push out their updates quicker than others and typically not far behind Google themselves, when Motorola releases any information on any major Android update, it is news worth paying attention to. On that point, that is exactly what Motorola did this morning. With the impending release of Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) about to happen, Motorola is one of the companies getting their info out quick and letting Motorola device owners know up front that they will be getting their updates. However, the downside with a move like this, is that the list often reveals much more than the company probably would like. In this case, many are taking the absence of their device listing, as confirmation that they will not be seeing Android 6.0 coming to their device.
Again, this is exactly what happened this morning. The list detailed that the Moto X (2nd Gen) in the U.S. would be getting its update. However, the listing was only for the Pure Edition. This led to some speculating that the Moto X (2nd Gen) carrier editions would not get the update. Following which, the Motorola Forums Manager seemed to confirm as much.
Now, there seems to be another device missing from the list. This time it is the Moto E. What makes this one a little more alarming is that this is the 2015 edition of the device. Meaning it is even younger than the Moto X (2014) carrier variants and therefore, just as surprising that it won’t be getting its update. Although, as Android Police point out, this seems a little more troublesome as when the Moto E was released, one of its selling points was that it won’t be forgotten when it comes to updates. The video below is one of the promos used for the Moto E and confirms the early promise made by Motorola. Of course, it is worth pointing out that the original list does state that it is subject to change and therefore, there is still hope for the likes of the Moto E. Just not for the AT&T and Verizon Moto X (2014) if you believe the Forums Manager.
