Motorola and Verizon have announced the DROID Turbo smartphone back in October 2014, in other words, one year ago. This handset has been exclusively available through Verizon in the US, and it really offered a lot in terms of specs and the design. The phone was splash resistant, packed in a top of the line specs, was quite sturdy and a 3,900mAh battery was also included. Well, Verizon has just announced the second-gen DROID Turbo handset, dubbed DROID Turbo 2. We’ve already covered the main announcement of this phone, and are here to take a closer look at its specs, read on.
The Motorola DROID Turbo 2 features a 5.4-inch QHD (2560 x 1440, 540 PPI) ‘Turbo Shatter Shield’ display along with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage, depending on which variant you opt for. Both of these variants will offer microSD card support, you’ll be able to expand internal storage up to a whopping 2TB. The DROID Turbo 2 is fueled by the Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 2.0GHz along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics. The 21-megapixel shooter (zero shutter lag + rapid autofocus, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF) is available on the back of this smartphone, and you’ll also find a dual-LED CCT flash placed over there as well. The 5-megapixel camera (wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture, LED flash) is available on the front side of this phone along with the LED flash.
Verizon’s DROID Turbo 2 handset also packs in a 3,760mAh battery on the inside, and with the help of the Turbo Power fast charging tech (25W charger), you can get 13 hours of charge in only 15 minutes according to the company. Now, the DROID Turbo 2 does offer 4G LTE connectivity, as you’d expect from this device, and Verizon and Motorola are also offering you a chance to design your own handset via Moto Maker. You can choose between Soft Grip, Ballistic Nylon and Horween Leather backs for this device, and there are a number of color options available. As far as software goes, you get Android 5.1.1 Lollipop pre-installed on the DROID Turbo 2. This handset measures 149.8 x 78 x 7.6-9.2mm, while it weighs 169 grams. The Motorola DROID Turbo 2 is water repellent, and it sports a Nano SIM slot.
Now, let’s talk more about the aforementioned ‘Turbo Shatter Shield’ display, shall we. This display consists out of 5 layers: rigid aluminum cored, flexible AMOLED display, a dual touch layer, interior lens and exterior lens. The sturdiness of this display was showcased by Verizon during their press conference today when they dropped the phone face down more than once. The DROID Turbo 2 is available in two variants, the 32GB model starts at $26 per month, and the 64GB variant starts from $30 per month.
