It’s been a year since Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Mi 4 and people are already getting excited to see the next flagship device. So when a teaser for its upcoming Mi media event on October 19 was posted on its Weibo page, many couldn’t help but speculate that this was either for the Xiaomi Mi 5 or the rumored Mi Note 2.
Unfortunately, Xiaomi founder Lei Jun, was quick to respond and let these speculations die down. According to Lei, the Next Generation of tech and science hasn’t been utilized by those in the smartphone market as much as in other industries. Co-founder Lin Bin also confirms that the announcement made on Monday had nothing to do with either of the two devices but with a number of items such as smartwatches, flat panel TVs, and laptops.
So while the upcoming Mi event still remains to be a mystery, many can’t help but wonder when they would actually announce the Xiaomi Mi 5 or the Mi Note 2. Especially since there are rumors about the latest and greatest Qualcomm chipset being available on the Mi 5, users can’t help but get excited for it. The delay for Mi 5 may be because Snapdragon 820 chipset still needs to be shipped. Perhaps this is the reason why Xiaomi is still pretty mum about the Mi 5.
On the contrary, there are new reports that suggest the model that will be announced on Monday will sport a deca-core MediaTek MT6797 processor. Judging from the responses of Xiaomi executives, there could be an entirely different model announced on the event. It is possible that Xiaomi is on the verge of entering the video game market, especially since both executives have left a remark on how next-generation technology has skipped the industry for video games such as in consoles, processors, and the like. Could it be that Xiaomi is about to enter into an entirely new direction? It’s definitely not an impossible move. But until Monday comes, all we have to do is speculate on what device they are specifically talking about on the teaser photo which was released yesterday, and you can check it out down below.
