OnePlus Almost Released Fitness Tracker & Bluetooth Speaker

This week saw OnePlus finally unveil their latest smartphone in the form of the OnePlus X. This is unashamedly a mid-range device which comes with much of the similar specs that you would find on their 2014 flagship device, the OnePlus One, including 3GB RAM, 16GB storage and being powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor.

Well, it seems OnePlus may have been busy thinking about other things over the past few months as a new report emerging today from Tech Radar reveals that OnePlus were working on a fitness tracker and a separate Bluetooth speaker. Few details are provided in the report except mainly for the existence of the two products. Carl Pei offered up the information during an interview. However, both of these products won’t be coming to the market as Pei notes that they decided to skip them to focus on what they do better, making smartphones. According to Pei, “We decided we needed to focus on smartphones, to ensure we’re launching quality products and leave the wearables and speakers to the people who know what they’re doing“.

Interestingly, Pei suggests that the two products were still in a development a month before their scheduled launch. It is unclear if this was the launch event which has just occurred, although, the timing would seem to suggest so. If correct, than a month before the launch would mean that they must have been quite far down the development route with the two products. It does seem strange to hear that the two products were cancelled so close to their final delivery time and does highlight the OnePlus ambitions to expand into other markets. However, according to the interview with Pei, this is not going to be happening anytime soon now. Instead, Pei notes that they will just continue to focus on their two lines (flagship and X) and improving their customer service. Of course, the company do have some new accessories that are due to land soon, and in terms of earphones, their new offering is coming in the form of the OnePlus Icons. For those interested, OnePlus did conduct a blind test video for their Icons earphones.
