Rumor: Meizu To Release A Helio X20-Powered Handset Soon

Meizu has released 5 devices thus far this year, and the latest one that arrived is the Meizu PRO 5. This phablet is the company’s newest flagship, and it sports more than a compelling set of specifications. The PRO 5 features a 5.7-inch 1080p AMOLED display, 3/4GB of RAM, 21-megapixel shooter and is powered by the Exynos 7420 14nm 64-bit octa-core processor. The PRO 5 is actually Meizu’s second flagship of the year, the MX5 was launched about three months ago. That being said, it seems like Meizu plans to launch yet another high-end device before the end of the year, which is something we did not expect.

According to a new report which is arriving from Taiwan, Meizu will announce a Helio X20 (MT6797)-powered smartphone in Q4 2015. As you all probably know, the Helio X20 is MediaTek’s latest offering and it will hit the market soon. This chip has scored really high on benchmark tests and it seems like it will be one of the three most powerful processors out in the market as soon as it launches. It remains to be seen how will it run in real life, of course, but it sure seems powerful. Well, it seems like Meizu intends to take equip this SoC as well, and release a device powered by it really soon.

This is a high-end SoC, so it is to be expected that the phone powered by it will be a premium offering as well. Now, it is possible that Meizu plans to release a MediaTek variant of the PRO 5 phablet, or perhaps they plan to showcase an entirely new device. We can guess as much as we want and still won’t know the answer to that question. The phone will launch in the next two months, and I’m sure we’ll get some leaked info before that happens, so stay tuned for that. Meizu hasn’t exactly released a ton of devices this year, but their products are compelling. They currently have the Exynos 7420-powered PRO 5, the Helio X20-powered device will launch soon, and it remains to be seen if Meizu has Snapdragon 820 plans for Q1 2016.
