When Samsung announced their flagship Galaxy S6 earlier this year, they did so by offering it in two different variants, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Later on in the year, they launched yet another variant, the larger Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and if this latest rumor is anything to go by, three looks likely to be the same number of versions we get with next year’s Galaxy S7. Unlike the Galaxy S6 however, it appears that the design isn’t what will be changing in these three variants but rather what’s on the inside; the processor.
Ever since the Galaxy S III, Samsung has been shipping different models with different processors depending on where they’re on sale. So, the United States got a Snapdragon S4 powered Galaxy S III while Europe got a quad-core Exynos 4412. In later devices such as the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5, regions like India and places that didn’t rely on Qualcomm’s LTE modems shipped with the Exynos equivalent. This latest rumor for the Galaxy S7 suggests that in India it will launch with the new Exynos 7422, the Exynos 8890 in South Korea, Europe and Japan and North America will get a Snapdragon 820 variant. It’s unsurprising to see Samsung turn back to the Snapdragon 820, especially if it’s as good as it seems on paper, but to launch two separate Exynos variants is unlike Samsung.
Either way, this sort of thing is just a rumor right now, and there’s not much known about the Galaxy S7 aside from conjecture and little stirrings like these. If the Galaxy S7 is to launch as this year’s flagship did then we should no doubt see it launching sometime in the Spring, and we’ll more than likely see more of it leak out over time before the actual announcement. No matter what though, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 have given Samsung an excellent foundation to enter 2016 and we’re sure that they’ll be looking to improve on these and hopefully capture even better sales.
