Only days after Samsung made their new 18.4-inch Galaxy View official, Samsung Canada and Bell just announced that it would be a Bell exclusive, available November 19 for $699. Just as smartphones have become larger over the years, Samsung is taking tablets to a completely new level of size – even larger than Apple’s iPad Pro. Samsung makes no secret that they consider the Galaxy View as a media consumption tablet – they most likely expect users to use the View as an entertainment device to replace a bedroom or kitchen TV. Even the interface is designed and optimized for video, not to mention a large 5,700 mAh battery on board. Samsung even designed a nifty built-in stand that will hold it in two positions – one for sitting up to view like a TV and another one for holding it so you can type on it like a tablet…it even has a built-in handle to carry it from room-to-room.
The Samsung Galaxy View comes with a huge 18.4-inch display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Samsung has not yet disclosed if the Galaxy View is using an Exynos processor, but it is an octa-core variety clocked at 1.6 GHz and comes with 2GB of RAM and either 32GB of 64GB of internal memory, but that memory can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The Galaxy View will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box. It offers Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and LTE connectivity and with its 5,700 mAh battery, Samsung is claiming 8 hours of video play before needing a charge. The Galaxy View also packs two high quality speakers – 4W x 2 – for a great listening experience when you watch your videos or movies. It measures 275.8 mm x 451.8 mm and weighs in at 2.65 kilograms. JK Shin, CEO and Head of Samsung’s IT & Mobile Business said, “At Samsung, we are committed to creating new possibilities and bringing our consumers the best mobile experience. We are very excited to introduce the new Galaxy View, providing an entirely new way of consuming mobile video and entertainment.”
The Samsung Galaxy View will have the Bell Fibe TV app built-in so you can take advantage of all Fibe TV has to offer. Bell says that, “Fibe TV brings you ultra-stunning HD, the channels you love, easy recording of several shows at once and a unique combination of features that make watching TV better. Also, only Fibe TV lets you restart a show already in progress from the beginning. And because Fibe TV is powered by fibre, it comes with super-fast Internet and there is no need for a dish.” It has blockbusters, classics, primetime shows and full series on demand…sounds like Bell and the Galaxy View are made for each other.
