Yesterday, Samsung announced, unveiled and confirmed the arrival of their latest tablet, the Samsung Galaxy View. While tablets in general seem to continually be hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons, like sliding sales and interest, the Galaxy View has been routinely hitting the headlines for a very different reason. Mainly, because this is not your average tablet and instead, is a massive tablet which comes boasting an 18.4-inch display.
Well, with yesterday’s announcement came the confirmation of the specs, although pricing and availability had yet to be confirmed. However, a few days ago a retailer listing that unexpectedly popped up (and later removed) suggested that the Galaxy View would be available for $599. Following on from this point, a new report from The Verge is coming through today confirming that the Galaxy View will indeed cost $599 and will be available to buy starting from November 6th.
If you missed yesterday’s announcement, then the Galaxy View is now confirmed to come with an 18.4-inch display which makes use of a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the Samsung Galaxy View will come sporting 2GB RAM and will be powered by an octa-core processor (clocking at 1.6 GHz). Storage will consist of 32GB internal storage and there will be an option to expand thanks to the inclusion of a microSD card slot (up to 200GB). In terms of cameras, the Galaxy view only makes use of one camera, a front facing option, which consists of a 2.1-megapixel camera. Additional features on offer include a 5,700 mAh battery, while the tablet comes running on Android 5.1.1.
A $600 price tag does seem quite high for a tablet and especially in this market, so it will be interesting to see just how successful the Galaxy View becomes. This is a big tablet and presumably one which will offer more ‘at home’ functions then just an actual tablet level of usage. Interestingly, it is being said there will also be an LTE version available, although, it is still currently unclear as to which carrier the Galaxy View LTE version will be available through. A tablet of this size, with its own carrier plan and LTE support is an interesting proposition.
