Samsung Patents Yet Another Oddly-Shaped Smartphone

Samsung has released a ton of smartphone out to the market in the last couple of years. The world’s largest smartphone OEM is well known for releasing many devices, and also releasing rather odd devices out to the market. This Korea-based smartphone OEM is constantly trying to innovate by releasing devices which sport interesting software features, or interesting hardware design for that matter. One such project paid off in a big way for Samsung when they released the first Galaxy Note handset back in 2004. Since then, technology has advanced, and has let Samsung play around with designs even more.

The Galaxy Note Edge was released over a year ago now, and that phone has sported all of Galaxy Note 4’s specs and features, but also had a curved display on one side. Samsung has pushed the ante even further up when they announced the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone back in March this year. This company is constantly filling for various patents which might become useful in the future, and it seems like Samsung is preparing to release another rather interesting, and somewhat innovative smartphone in the future, read on.

Samsung has been granted yet another patent, and this time around the company has patented a trapezoid-shaped phone. If you take a look at the images down below, you’ll notice how odd this smartphone looks. It seems like the device sports sloping edges on both its top and bottom, while the display is meant to slope over the bottom edge of the device. Now, this handset sure looks interesting, and it remains to be seen what Samsung intends to do with this patent.

Not every such patent companies are granted actually turn into a consumer product, but this sure is interesting. As you all know, Samsung has also been filing for various foldable smartphone patents this year, so who knows what can we expect the company to announce in 2016. This ‘trapezoid’ smartphone sure is interesting, but it remains to be seen how useful it is. You can imagine how odd this will look in real life, and the question remains, how useful will it be?
