Earlier this year at IFA in Berlin which was at the beginning of last month, Sony introduced the world to the Xperia Z5 Compact, a smaller version of the next generation flagship device known as the Xperia Z5. While many would argue that this is Sony’s best compact in the Xperia Z series to date, there are a handful of users who would likely disagree, at least partially, due to the issues they’ve been having with the touchscreen. According to some users of the white model, there have been touch input problems with the screens but only on the white model and just the Xperia Z5 Compact as the other devices in the range seem to be just fine.
It’s been reported by Sony that this is wholly a software-based issue, so users that have been affected by the problems won’t end up having to return or exchange their devices for a new device. Having said that, with Sony acknowledging the issue at hand that means they’re aware of it. They have stated they will be issuing a fix for the touch input problems in the near future and that they are already working on it, unfortunately, at the time they didn’t explicitly mention when the software push would go out, so users simply have to wait.
In Sony’s official statement they mention that they have successfully identified the root cause of the problem thanks to being able to work with devices that were returned by consumers, so even though some people ended up sending their devices back, now that Sony has figured out the problem and will be issuing a software fix soon, anyone else still affected that has a white model Xperia Z5 Compact won’t have to go through the return process. While it’s not entirely clear if the white models with touch input problems are limited to specific regions the update is supposed to begin rolling out to users by October 26th. There’s no detail on how long it might take to reach every single user with the issue, but it’s been said the affected users was limited to a smaller number of consumers.
