T-Mobile and Sprint have been engaged in a price war for the last few months. With prices getting lower and lower and lower. This is great for the consumer, as it means more competition in the wireless space. For a while, T-Mobile had the lowest price for a 1GB plan that was not a prepaid plan (meaning you are postpaid and still get all the Uncarrier features). That plan was for $50 and included unlimited data (after 1GB, you are throttled to 2G or EDGE speeds). Now Sprint has gone even lower than T-Mobile.
Sprint, on Thursday, announced a new data plan that comes in as low as $20 per month. That gives you unlimited data, however that’s 1GB of high-speed data and throttled after that. Additionally, you’ll be paying $20 for unlimited talk and text. That brings the total up to $40 per month. If you’re a light data user, or are around WiFi all the time, this is a great plan to check out. Sprint put together a nice table – at the bottom of this post – that compares this new plan to the offerings from their competitors AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Sprint’s Global Roaming feature is also included for this $40 plan, so you can roam in other countries without any issues.
On Thursday, Sprint also announced a new $70 unlimited high-speed data plan which includes 3GB of mobile hotspot as well as their Global Roaming package. In addition to all of that, customers can add another line with the same unlimited high-speed data, 3GB of mobile hotspot and global roaming for just $60 per line. With a maximum of 10 lines. That is one heck of a value, and comes in $10 cheaper than T-Mobile’s unlimited high-speed data plan. And as most of you know, Verizon and AT&T stopped offering unlimited data a few years ago, so there’s nothing to compare on that side, unfortunately.
Sprint hasn’t yet announced their third quarter (it’s actually their second fiscal quarter for 2015) earnings, although they are due to announce them next week on November 3rd. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of numbers the fourth largest carrier puts up for that quarter. These announcements today will definitely help them add customers in the holiday quarter which we are in right now.
