Supply Issues Force Delay of Nexus 6P Canadian Launch

UPDATE 10/15: A Rogers’ representative has also confirmed to our source the Nexus 6P is delayed until November 2, 2015.

It looks like Canada will have to wait just a little bit longer to get their hands on the new and exciting Huawei Nexus 6P.  It was just the other day we reported that a Bell representative assured a reader the Nexus 6P would be available on October 26.  However, an internal Bell memo, made available to our friends at MobileSyrup, indicates that, “Due to supply issues, Google and Huawei have decided to push out the launch date of the Nexus 6P to November 2.”  We can see from the notice that the shipping dates to the carriers and corporate stores will be on October 23 and a new launch date of November 2, which should allow the stores to have a sufficient supply on hand by the launch date.

Our source has reached out to other carriers to determine if they too will be delaying their launch as well, but the notice seems to indicate the shortage is a nationwide delay and we will update the status if we hear any more.  This does explain the sudden disappearance of the Nexus 6P from the Google Store over the weekend.  Before it was removed customers were able to place orders with estimated shipping dates between October 29 to November 5.  So the bad news is that the Nexus 6P will be delayed, but the good news that wait will only be an extra couple of weeks.

It is a shame that a delay is necessary for such a hotly anticipated device, but the Nexus 6P looks like a real winner – the higher spec’d of the two Nexus smartphones that Google decided to launch this year.  The Nexus line of smartphones has always had respectable specifications and a reasonable price.  However, that changed last year with the Motorola Nexus 6 was released – big, higher-end and higher priced – and it took its toll on the Nexus customers.  This year, Google did a smart thing by ushering in a mid-range and a high-end Nexus smartphone – this allows the ‘normal’ Nexus user a great device in the LG Nexus 5X and those that want a few more specs in their device, pure Android and are willing to spend more money, the Nexus 6P.  Customers now have a choice and it will hopefully expand the Nexus market.
