Switch To BlackBerry Priv With Ease Using 'Content Transfer'

The Blackberry Priv got leaked way before it was officially introduced. Pre-orders in the US started last week and that’s when we got to confirm every aspect of the phone. It’s quite an interesting device, as it combines some features that Blackberry purists will appreciate like the physical QWERTY keyboard, but it also integrates very powerful internals and a large screen that subtlety curves on the sides. Let’s remember that this is the first time that Blackberry uses the Android operating system in one of their devices, so it might take some time to get used to the new interface for those who appreciate Blackberry’s own operating system. Still, the company might want to keep those loyal customers, so they have released an app that would help them transfer some information from their current Blackberry phone to the Priv.

The app is called Blackberry Content Transfer and it is compatible with any device running Blackberry 10 (10.2.1 and later). Some data like contacts and calendar events will be synced in their new device as it is associated with the web-based account, so once they set up their account information, the process will be done automatically. Users can also transfer their content stored on the memory card by inserting it in the new device. Still, the app is designed to make the whole process easier, so all of these files and the ones that are stored on the internal memory can be transferred using it. At 2 MB, the app is very lightweight and it can be downloaded from the Blackberry App World.

The files will be transferred with password-protected encryption using Google Drive, a media card or a private Wi-Fi network, so there’s probably no need for an additional app installed on the Blackberry Priv. The data that will be moved into the new device includes contacts, calendar, pictures, videos, music, text messages (SMS), notes, tasks, documents and email accounts. Let’s remember some of the Priv’s specifications, it includes a 5.4-inch QHD display and it’s powered by and hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3 GB of RAM. There are 32 GB of internal storage and they can be expanded using Micro SD cards up to 2 TB. The main camera is an 18-megapixel one with OIS and a dual-tone LED flash, the one in the front is a 2-megapixel one and there’s a 3,410 mAh battery.
