When it comes to Android tablets, 2015 has been a year of steady changes, rather than widespread change. One thing however has featured in a number of the better tablets from this year; a keyboard. The Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of those with a keyboard dock, and as we found out in our review it makes a great deal of difference to the overall experience. Google must have been paying attention, because their new Pixel C tablet is basically built around the whole idea of a keyboard dock. While the Pixel C will of course launch with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Xperia Z4 Tablet was launched much earlier in the year, and is still waiting for an update.
Australian network Telstra seems to think that Sony’s flagship tablet will be getting the update in January of next year. Not too long ago, Sony came out and officially confirmed the devices that would be getting the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and the Xperia Z4 Tablet was definitely on that list, but no dates were given. Spring 2016 seems pretty likely for a wider rollout of Android 6.0, but more recent devices such as the Xperia Z5 series, the Xperia Z3+ and the Xperia Z4 Tablet could be first in line however, and a January release would not be too long a wait. Especially considering Sony has added quite a bit of handy software to the tablet when used with the keyboard dock.
Sony has a decent track record of keeping their Xperia smartphones updated, especially those at the higher-end of their offerings. The original Xperia Z for instance has been updated all the way from Android 4.0 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Sony is not however, known for being quick when it comes to updates, but rather they’ve become known for offering up solid and reliable updates that are traditionally free of bugs and update with little hassle overall. The Telstra listing can be found at the source link below, and with it are listed Stagefright fixes, but we would hope Sony will be rolling out an update for the Xperia Z4 Tablet to patch those holes a little sooner than January.
