Earlier this week, as we expected, Verizon took the wraps off of their new DROID smartphones. This year, Verizon and Motorola have teamed up once again, and are releasing two smartphones this year, the DROID Turbo 2 and the DROID MAXX 2. While the Turbo 2 is certainly the flagship, with a brilliant 5.4-inch AMOLED Quad HD display and ShatterShield technology, the MAXX 2 is worth considering as well. We covered the announcement earlier in the week and managed to go hands-on with the both of them, but today they’re available for Verizon customers – new and old – to purchase.
Verizon is doing something a little different with the DROID smartphones these year, and those looking for the DROID Turbo with 32GB can either pay for it in full at $624 or pay $26.00 a month for 24-months. Neither of these include your service of course, but it is nice to see Verizon adopt sensible pricing for their flagship devices. On to the MAXX 2 and while this might not be the DROID that you’re looking for, it’s a 5.5-inch Full HD affair with a larger battery and a Snapdragon 615 CPU. This pales in comparison to the Snapdragon 810 CPU in the Turbo 2, but at full price it’s just $384, which is quite a saving. Should you want to pay for it monthly, you can do so for $16 a month for 24-months.
Both of these are good devices, but it’s clear that the Turbo 2 is where the majority of research and planning went for this line of DROID smartphones. That ShatterShield technology that Motorola has cooked up results in a smartphone that is incredibly tough. You can drop the Turbo 2 from a great height and have the display not shatter on you, and it makes the whole phone incredibly resilient. A decent device for those that are prone to dropping devices or getting the DROID Turbo 2 is well worth looking into. This is of course, if you know and love both Verizon’s fairly high prices and their network.
