Video: Verizon Explains the Layers of ShatterShield

With the Droid Turbo 2 announcement today, Verizon and Motorola also debuted a new technology that the folks at Motorola had been working on for quite some time. And that’s ShatterShield. It’s a five layer system that keeps your phone safe from shattering when you drop it. There are five layers of the display here on the Droid Turbo 2, which is explained in the video below. The most interesting layer is the flexible AMOLED display. Now we’ve been wondering what these companies are going to do with flexible displays, and here’s a great idea for using them. To make displays that won’t shatter no matter how much it’s dropped or how hard it’s dropped.

CNN took the Shatter-proof display to the test today, and came away with some dents. But the display did not crack at all. That is some pretty amazing tech, if you ask me. The Droid Turbo 2 is going on sale this Thursday, online and in Verizon stores across the country. It’ll cost you $26 per month for the 32GB model and $32 per month for the 64GB model. It also comes with Moto Maker, which brings in a ton of other options for customizing your smartphone. Something that Moto X users have had for a few years now.
