Xiaomi is China’s number one smartphone OEM at the moment. This company mainly manufactures smartphones, but they dabble in pretty much anything tech-related. The company has released smart TVs, fitness trackers, water purifier, a tablet… etc. You never know what to expect this company to introduce, and that’s what keeps things fresh. That being said, the company has teased their October 19th event two days ago, and based on the released teaser, more or less everyone thought that Xiaomi will announce their new flagship, the Mi 5. Unfortunately, that won’t be the case. The company’s co-founder, Lei Jun, basically denied the reports. So, what will we see announced at the event?
Xiaomi has released yet another teaser in the meantime, and this time around they shared an image which contains a digital camera and a camera lens on it. Now, Xiaomi is well known for using such images as a distraction on their teasers, so it is possible that they won’t announce a digital camera on October 19th, but who knows. Anything ranging from a digital camera to a sport camera like the GoPro is game at the moment. One thing is for sure, whatever Xiaomi plans to announce will be camera-centric, otherwise the company wouldn’t release such a teaser.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 was expected to be announced back in July considering its predecessor was announced in July 2014, but that didn’t happen. Xiaomi did announce the high-end Mi 4c smartphone quite recently, but that’s not the company’s flagship for this year. They will announce the Mi 5 at some point, and it seems like they’re waiting for Qualcomm to release their Snapdragon 820 SoC, which won’t happen before January next year. Will Xiaomi wait that long to introduce the Mi 5? Well, it’s possible. It is also possible that they might introduce the Helio X20-powered Mi 5 this year, and then release the Mi Note 2 phablet fueled by the Snapdragon 820 next year. There are various possibilities opened here for this Chinese smartphone OEM, and we’ll just have to wait and see what they opt to do. Until then, let’s see what Xiaomi plans to announce on October 19th, whatever it is, sounds interesting.
