Xiaomi is China’s number one smartphone manufacturer, but the company is fairly active in India as well. Xiaomi’s devices are limited in availability (at least officially) considering Xiaomi is selling them in parts of Asia and Brazil only. The company does intend to expand the availability of their devices moving forward, but is focusing on India for the time being. According to the company’s CEO, Xiaomi aims to become one of the top 3 smartphone OEMs in India in the next three years. They’ve already released a number of smartphones in India, and this time around Xiaomi is announcing a service, not a smartphone, read on.
The company has announced they’re launching a doorstep pick up and drop service called PickMi. The service will cost only Rs. 189 in India (inclusive of tax), and they’ve also announced that the service will be available across the country. This was the company’s official statement on their Facebook page: “PickMi service across India! We bring our service to your doorstep. Call us on 1800-103-6286 and avail our pick up and drop service for all Mi products for just Rs. 189”. We do not have all the details at the moment, but Xiaomi will almost certainly share all of those with the public soon.
India is currently the second largest smartphone market in the world, trumped only by China, and many smartphone manufacturers see great potential in that Asian country, for a reason. I don’t know if you recall, but Xiaomi has partnered up with Uber back in July and announced a Mi Note delivery service in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, which suggested they’re testing out the service before launching it some other countries. Xiaomi is trying to do everything at once, which is very interesting, but we’ll see if they’ll going to be able to maintain this. It is also worth mentioning that this company has recently become a MVNO in China after they partnered up with some China-based carriers. Xiaomi is expected to announce Mi 5 and Mi Note 2 flagship smartphone and phablet in the coming weeks / months, so stay tuned for that.
