Xiaomi has managed to become one of the most powerful China-based smartphone manufacturers in less than 5 years since the company was founded. This China-based company is currently still the number one smartphone OEM in China, and is constantly battling Huawei for that place. That being said, Xiaomi has released a number of devices this year, but they’ve also announced a new version of their Android-based OS, MIUI. The MIUI 7 was announced back in August, both Chinese and the international version of the ROM.
The MIUI 7 ROM looks very similar to MIUI 6, but Xiaomi did make some subtle change in the design of the ROM, added extra functionality and made the ROM a lot speedier overall. Speaking of MIUI 7, some of you might wonder when will you get the update. Well, Xiaomi has decided to tease its release on the company’s official Weibo page today, and it seems like the stable MIUI 7 release will start rolling out on October 27th. The beta ROM was available for a while now, and the final version is coming soon.
Now, let’s talk more about the ROM, shall we. Xiaomi has introduced ‘System UIs’, which essentially lets you set any theme you want, and make the phone look the way you want it to look. MIUI 7 comes pre-installed with a handful of themes, but the developer community has released tons more for you to choose from. ‘Showtime’ is yet another feature added to the OS, it allows you to set animated videos for certain contacts, which is something you’ll either love or hate. The ‘Auto DND’ feature has also been introduced here, which can be used in collaboration with Xiaomi’s Mi Band fitness tracker. The ‘XXL Text’ lets you apply huge fonts throughout the OS, and the ‘MIUI Data Saver’ is an Opera Max-powered internet data compression feature. There are a handful more features introduced by the company, and if you’d like to check those out, click here.
It is also worth mentioning that Xiaomi has managed to speed up MIUI 7 quite a bit (30%), and the OS is also said to consume 25% less battery than MIUI 6. The MIUI 7 update will land on Mi 2, Mi 2S, Mi 3, Mi 4, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note, Mi Note / Mi Note Pro, Mi 4i, Redmi 2 and Redmi Note 2. This info is 2 months late though, so you can expect additional devices to receive the update as well.
